This topic is about Half of a Yellow Sun. Mar 05, PM. This was an interesting novel. I have read a few other books set in Nigeria, and a few set during coups and revolutions in Africa, but this is the first I've read dealing with Biafra. So, while this was a heavy read, I knew what I was getting into before I started reading this book. I liked that this book got into some of the different sorts characters present during decolonization, including biracial couples, elite native women, and educated house-servants who have the capacity to shift into more influential roles during the turbulence of decolonization. And, of course, this story centers on the tensions between the different tribal groups in the Nigeria area, those who were supported by the British and became the economic elites, versus the darker, less Caucasian-looking people who were kept in subservient roles during British rule.
