End Times Bible Prophecy: It’s Not What They Told You by Brian Godawa

Eschatology is a subject that has captivated many Christians. In fact, some Christians are so into studying the end times that it becomes practically an obsession. The sad thing is that the dominant view in the church today is, for the most part, simply wrong. Dispensationalism is propounded by so many preachers, pastors, and theologians that many are under the impression that it is THE correct view of eschatology, and that any disagreement that might come up would be things like the timing of the rapture and whether the millennial reign of Christ for a thousand years is literal or non-literal. Not many are even aware that an entirely different paradigm of eschatology exists. They just take the theology of the Left Behind series for granted. I know I did.

In this book, Brian Godawa defends a view that is called Partial Preterism. This view says that the vast majority of what we think are end times Bible prophesies were actually prophesying the destruction of Jerusalem in the temple and the judgment upon the Israelites for rejecting Jesus as the Messiah and that these prophesies were fulfilled in the first century. Godawa exegetes primarily from the Olivet Discourse, but takes a look at other biblical texts as well. He compares what hes exegeted with the historical evidence both inside and outside The Bible to show that what Jesus prophesied would occur, did occur.

Godawa does not deny a physical return of Christ in the future or a literal, bodily resurrection upon His return. This is a different brand of preterism called FULL Preterism or HYPER Preterism. I not only find this view false (and Godawa does as well), but I find it heretical. I do not, however, find PARTIAL preterism to be heretical. In fact, I think its most likely true. This is the third book on preterism Ive read (the previous two being Hank Hanegraafs The Apocalypse Code and R.C Sprouls The Last Days According To Jesus) and I have only become further convinced that the dominant eschatological system is built on many assumptions and eisegesis with a dash of sensationalism to give it that juicy flavor that has spawned so many movies.

I agree with the subtitle of this book: The Bibles teaching on the end times is indeed not what they (preachers, theologians, etc.) told you.

Eschatology: What the Bible Says Will Happen in End Times

British Broadcasting Corporation Home. Why is Revelation, the last book of the Bible, so different from the rest of the text? Does it really predict the end of the world? The Book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, has fascinated and puzzled Christians for centuries. With its vivid imagery of disaster and suffering - the Battle of Armageddon, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the hideous Beast whose number is - many have seen it as a map to the end of the world. But Biblical scholars, having studied the text and the social and political history of the time, have a different interpretation.

It occupies a central place in Christian eschatology. Its title is derived from the first word of the text, written in Koine Greek : apokalypsis , meaning "unveiling" or "revelation" before title pages and titles, books were commonly known by the incipit , their first words, as is also the case of the Hebrew Five Books of Moses or Torah. The Book of Revelation is the only apocalyptic document in the New Testament canon although there are short apocalyptic passages in various places in the Gospels and the Epistles. The only extended apocalyptic passage in the Old Testament is in the Book of Daniel. The author names himself in the text as "John", but his precise identity remains a point of academic debate. The bulk of traditional sources date the book to the reign of the Roman emperor Domitian AD 81—96 , and the evidence tends to confirm this. The book spans three literary genres: the epistolary , the apocalyptic , and the prophetic.

Eschatology is the branch of Christian theology dealing with the biblical study of end times prophecies and the events of the last days. The primary books of the Bible pertaining to end times prophecy are the book of Daniel, the book of Ezekiel and the book of Revelation. Though a challenging area of study, Eschatology helps believers understand the prophetic passages of Scripture and how to live the Christian life in preparation for the end times.

What Do the Words “End Times” Mean in Scripture?

The Bible is the holy scripture of the Christian religion, purporting to tell the history of the Earth from its earliest creation to the spread of Christianity in the first century A. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament have undergone changes over the centuries, including the the publication of the King James Bible in and the addition of several books that were discovered later.

The end time also called end times , end of time , end of days , last days , final days , doomsday, or eschaton is a future time-period described variously in the eschatologies of several world religions both Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic , which teach that world events will reach a final climax. The Abrahamic faiths maintain a linear cosmology , with end-time scenarios containing themes of transformation and redemption. In Judaism , the term "end of days" makes reference to the Messianic Age and includes an in-gathering of the exiled Jewish diaspora , the coming of the Messiah , the resurrection of the righteous , and the world to come. Some sects of Christianity depict the end time as a period of tribulation that precedes the second coming of Christ , who will face the Antichrist along with his power structure and usher in the Kingdom of God. Isa will triumph over the false messiah, or the Antichrist, which will lead to a sequence of events that will end with the sun rising from the west and the beginning of the Qiyamah Judgment day. Non-Abrahamic faiths tend to have more cyclical world-views, with end-time eschatologies characterized by decay , redemption, and rebirth.

Here we have summarized references from all over the Bible in order to give a better picture of the events that will take place in the end times. The tribulation or trial arises when your The rapture is the name given to the occasion when Jesus calls His bride home. We do not know exactly when the rapture will happen.

In the Gospel accounts Jesus gave a brief summary of the events and conditions leading up to His return. But later He filled in many details. Sixty years passed before He revealed more of the specifics about the end time to the apostle John. Here we find again the outline of the prophecy Jesus gave on the Mount of Olives, but represented in extensive symbolism. To him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And has made us kings and priests to God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
