Ann-Margret: My Story by Ann-Margret

Enjoyable but guarded memoir by fireball Ann-Margret. Ann has always been a very private person so its surprising that she decided to write one in the first place - perhaps to have some say in how her story is told. Ann-Margret talks about her relationships with both Elvis and Roger, but you can tell she is holding back a lot. She tends to focus on her feelings over discussing details. She also only skims through her career in film, giving most her pictures a page or two- if that. The book shines the most when Ann-Margret discusses her career onstage, her family, and her trials with alcoholism. If you are like me and love Ann-Margret you will find it worthwhile, just dont expect to come away heavy in details.

Ann-Margret on Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen & others

Pictures | Ann|Margret and Elvis Presley | Page I

Like many young men, Elvis Presley longed to surround himself with gorgeous, glamorous women who adored him. Unlike most, he had the opportunity to do exactly that. The singer was linked to a number of high-profile beauties during his short life, and those who have remembered him publicly have generally done so with affection. Elvis married just once, to a young woman he had courted for nearly eight years. As is well known, he met year-old Priscilla Beaulieu during his stint in the Army, while serving in Germany.

IN person, you don't call her Ms. Margret or Ann, but the name her mother calls her: Ann-Margret. And even now, at 52, she wants to be the good girl. Always tried to have the perfect little manners. Never wanted to displease my parents.

The one, who for obvious reasons, feared the couples' hot romance more than anyone else, was Priscilla Ann Beaulieu , then just a school girl who had just turned 18, who lived 'secretly' at Graceland , and who had just left high school. Ann-Margret was the opposite of Priscilla. She sparkled. She could dance, she could sing, she could be sexy but also shy and family loving. You could joke with her and she joked back. A hot and gorgeous thing with pizazz. She was both smart and humble.

Her previous film, Bye Bye Birdie , released just three months before she reported for work on Viva Las Vegas , made her an instant star. In her autobiography, Ann-Margret recalled her introduction to Elvis Presley:. In the background, a few of his guys hung around observing their boss, a ritual I would soon come to expect. Under the watchful gaze of director George Sidney, a studio photographer snapped shots of what the film company executives figured would be a historic moment. I reached out my hand and he shook it gently. Little did I know he would soon capture mine. Before filming began, the two had to record their musical numbers.
