Be Nice to Spiders by Margaret Bloy Graham

When Billy left his pet spider, Helen, at the Zoo, the animals suddenly became happy and contented. The lions snoozed all day long, the elephants enjoyed their baths, and the zebras ate their hay in peace -- all because Helen was spinning webs and catching flies.

But one day Helens webs were swept away. The Keeper had the cages cleaned for the Mayors inspection tour. Soon the flies were back again and the animals were miserable once more. But not for long...

Children will be fascinated and amused by the way Helen solved the problem and won a permanent place of honor for herself in the Zoo.

Margaret Bloy Grahams pictures match the wit and charm of her delightful story.

Thank you! He nice to spiders --they eat up the flies and keep the zoo animals happy. Miserable lions swatting at flies: spider Helen spins a web--contented lions with pleased grins lolling in their cages. Ditto for elephant, zebra, camel. An ill-informed clean-up halts the euphoria, but all ends well with Helen getting the recognition she deserves and spawning a large supply of fly-fanciers.

A little outdated now, it portrays very defined gender roles, but it's endearing nonetheless! This is one of my favorite books. I read it to my kids multiple times in the mid-eighties, and we fortunately still have a copy in our library collection for others to enjoy. I am looking for the name of a children's book from the 80's. There was a little spider that was hidden in a different place on each page. Anybody know the name?
