Brantley Gilbert - One Hell of an Amen (with lyrics) Military tribute

Brantley Gilbert Shares Full Story of ‘One Hell of an Amen’ at Emotional No. 1 Party

It was released in November as the third single from his third studio album Just as I Am. Gilbert revealed that the song is based on a true story regarding the death of a US military soldier who was like a brother to one of his close friends. The song is about the loss of loved ones, using "a fallen soldier and a cancer victim" as examples. His heart is totally in the right place. But the execution is absolutely horrendous. Attempting to tackle two different tragedies in one song — a fallen soldier and death by cancer — and fails to stumble upon any truth in either individual situation, let alone a compelling connection between the two.

One Hell Of An Amen Lyrics: Preacher said he died too young / Over there toting that gun / For Uncle Sam and our freedom / Mom and Daddy.

After the customary speeches and awards, Davis took the stage, tearing up as he thanked his wife and daughters for sticking with him as he chased his country dreams. The song was his first No. Dekle — a songwriting vet who scored hits with Kenny Rogers , Joe Nichols and more — also thanked the room before Gilbert took the microphone and told a story about his friend Josh Greene. Greene was an Army Ranger who returned home several years ago after watching a friend get killed when the Humvee he was in was bombed. Greene wasn't the same, Gilbert says, and for years he watched his longtime friend — a man who'd inspired several of Gilbert's songs — battle demons. Josh Greene's Army friend was Jonathan E.

Preacher said he died too young Over there toting that gun For Uncle Sam and our freedom. Mom and daddy dressed in black They folded up that flag, Handed it to dad and started praying, Yeah he went out with 21 guns blazing. I only started hearing it after it started making its way off the chart on the station I frequent, but it caught me from the first listen. I still expect to hear your voice and your laugh. I still expect you to be here. You fought so hard, for so long and were given so much more time than they thought, but still why? Its not fair.
